A CLASSIC FJORDTALE
Majestic Hotel Mundal in Fjærland is a unique example of the Norwegian hoteltradition from the late 1800s, and we take great pride in holding on to the authentic and atmospherical even today.
When you sit down by the fireplace, in deep leather chairs, made by local craftsmen over a hundred years ago. The world has been changing in a racing speed. Hotel Mundal in Sogn still has the rear kind of atmosphere with fjord, glacier and booktown as it´s closest neighbours.
Welcome to a new fantastic season in 2015

PROPOSAL FOR HIKES AND ACTIVITIES IN FJÆRLAND
Arrival Day - 50 meters from the pier and 2.9 km from the bus stop you will find Hotel Mundal in the middle of Fjærland center. Check in to the hotel before you get yourself some lunch in Café Mikkel where we serve homemade pastries, cakes, lunch and drinks every day during high season. A walk after lunch can be strawling around in The Norwegian Book Town with its twelve outlets, or visit one of the tours described in the hike booklet that can be obtained in the reception. It is also lovely to paddle kayaks on the fjord. Let us know before arrival and we will organize a guided tour with Fjarland Kayak & Glacier driven by Kjell and Inna.
At 19.00 we gather for a apertif with some storytelling in the lounge before our lovely 3-course menu is served, prepared by our fantastic chef Roger Nylende. Coffee, with the possibility of after-dinner drinks are enjoyed in the salons after the meal. Here you can also enjoy a game of Carambole or Rummy. Ask at the reception if you need some assistance with the rules.
After a good night's sleep, hopefully without too many disturbing seagulls outside, the breakfast buffet is prepared in the dining room from 08:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Option 1 - In Nature - Make yourselves a great packed lunch and do one of the tours described in hike booklet that can be purchased in the reception. For example a trip to Flatbrehytta with stunning views out over the glacier and the Fjærlandsfjord. Another option is a pre-booked guided tour on the glacier itself or on the fjord with Fjarland Kayak & Glacier. Finish off the day after dinner with a short walk along the seaside until you get to the bird-watching tower at Bøyum.
Option 2 - Nature and landscape without a car - Take the Glacierbus at. 09.45 from the dock that takes you to the Norwegian Glacier Museum and then to the two glacier arms; The Supphelleglacier and The Bøyaglacier. Then try the delicious pie on Kaffistova before a short afternoon walk to Heimastølen where you can see well preserved traditional old farm buildings.
Option 3 - Nature and landscape by car - stop by the Norwegian Glacier Museum before continuing north along Rv5. Turn right by the signpost that says Supphellebreen to watch the glacierarm. Return to Rv5 and turn right just before the tunnel to see the Bøyaglacier. Maybe stop by for a cup of coffee and a quick trip to the souvenir shop Brevasshytta before you go back on Rv5 and continue through the tunnel towards Skei. A half an hour towards Jølster is Astruptunet, a museum which is both an insight into daily life in the early 1900s and a monument to the painter Nikolai Astrup's life and work.
Back at the hotel, please contact reception if you want to borrow some of our garden games such as petanque, cricket or badminton before dinner. If you just don´t want to sit down after dinner and enjoy a book by the fireplace, you should try the Fjærlandbeer at Fjærland Fjordstue.
After a good breakfast you might have to return home again. There are also so much to be seen along the way but that must be a different story!
TO RENEW BACK IN TIME 2
We are slowly continuing to refurbish parts of the building. Here we managed to get back to the great old wooden walls in the dining room with original prints.

TO RENEW BACK IN TIME
In 2010, several of the rooms at the hotel were refurbished. Bright wallpaper, new comfortable beds and luxurious furnishings are installed in several rooms. This picture is taken in the turret room - the room has a private balcony overlooking both the fjord and glacier.
