How to get there

Generally buses, boats and trains correspond to make travel easy, and combinations of trains, boats and buses are many. See ruteinfo.net for updated schedules. Listed below are some of the quickest ways to travel Oslo/Bergen – Fjærland. Most public transportation does not require booking. The exception is the Oslo-Bergen railway.

 

 

From Oslo:

  • Direct bus from Oslo to Fjærland – dep. 0900 arr. 1650 (www.ruteinfo.no)

  • By private car (see road map) – 6 hrs – either via Hol, Gol or Fagernes

  • By airplane to Sogndal (airport 50 km from Fjærland), to Førde (85km) or to Sandane (85 km) – 50 minutes flying time (www.wideroe.no)

 

From Bergen:

  • Boat via Balestrand – dep. 0800 – arr. 1305 (change at Balestrand 1155)

  • Bus via Voss, Vik and Sogndal – 5 hrs (change at Sogndal) – several departures.

  • By bus via Førde, Skei

  • Bus via Voss, Lærdal and Sogndal – 5 hrs – Several departures:

  • Private car (see road map) – 4 hrs – either via Vik mountain, Lærdal or Førde

 

Return to Oslo or Bergen

  • Dep Fjærland at 1050 or 1345 by bus – arr. Oslo 1830 or 2120 resepectively

  • Dep Fjærland 1530 by ferry – arrive Bergen 2040 or go by bus – several departures

  • To and from Fjærland, going north, i.e. to Stryn, Geiranger, Selje, there are buses several times a day, www.ruteinfo.no

 

 

How to include Flåm when going to/from Fjærland - Oslo or Bergen

Oslo/Bergen – Flåm by railway takes 6 hrs/4 hrs respectively. The trains run several times a day.

 

Flåm – Fjærland by bus takes 2,5 hrs.

There are several departures daily Flåm – Fjærland via Sogndal by bus.

 

Flåm – Fjærland by boat takes 3,5 hrs.

From Flåm there is a boat via Balestrand to Fjærland, but the stretch Balestrand – Fjærland has its latest departure from Balestrand at 12 noon. This means that coming from Oslo/Bergen you must either stop overnight in Flåm and leave next morning at 0600 (arr. Fjærland 0930) or you continue by boat from Flåm 1530, to Balestrand and stay overnight.

 

Returning from Fjærland you can go by boat to Oslo/Bergen in one day.

Dep Fjærland at 0940, via Balestrand, arrive Flåm 1325 – time for lunch

Depart by train up the Flåm valley:

for Myrdal at 1440 – arrive Bergen at 1752

for Myrdal at 1550– arrive Oslo at 2230
